Creating and Executing an Action Plan for Twitter Improvement

This post seeks to summarize what has already been discussed in this series, and to help you place it all into an actionable, executable plot that will bring more business benefits by using Twitter. The post has been summarized into three steps.
Make a specific action plot
A sound plot is made as you answer the following questions: How much time do I have to spend on Twitter? What are the business outcomes I want to achieve from Twitter? Once you know your time constraints and your purpose, set up the plot by asking the next set of questions: Who should I follow to accomplish my outcomes? Who do I need in my community to accomplish my outcomes? What do I need to Tweet about in order to be helpful to my audience? What types of questions am I able to answer? What are the problems I can help solve? Once you have this outlined, you can set to work using the tools and methods previously outlined in this series.
Summarize all data metrics into actionable insights
Although many people can come up with a excellent action plot, many people falter in the analysis aspect that goes along with that plot. There are two dangers: not doing any analysis, and doing too much analysis.
Not doing any analysis (flying blind)
Some people will tell you that looking at the numbers and focusing on the analytics is a waste of time, and that it would be better to place your effort into really running your business and being present more often on Twitter. This is right to an extent, but if you never look at the data you are missing valuable, actionable insights that help you use Twitter to connect with your audience.
Doing too much analysis (analysis paralysis)
On the other end of the spectrum, some focus so much on the numbers and ratios that they forget that we are dealing with human beings when we talk about Twitter. The most vital part of Twitter is the human relationships that are developed that allow business to flourish. Focusing solely on getting your Twitter metrics to raise means you are missing the point.
The Pleased Medium
The right amount of analysis is the amount that gives you valuable, actionable, human insights in a minimal amount of time. That way you can spend your time implementing the insights that you find. In order to accomplish this, choose two are three metrics that will give you the most valuable insight, and continually track these two or three. Here are a few suggestions:
Retweet Ratio: This tells you how valuable your tweets are to your community – the higher the ratio, the more helpful you are being. The more valuable you are to your Twitter community, the more business you will receive from them. Take it a step further and look specifically at what is being retweeted so you get an thought of how your community operates, and what they find useful. (This can be found under the ‘content’ tab in Klout)
Link Clicks: Same thought as the suggestion above; if you share a lot of links with your community, look to see which links people are clicking and therefore which ones catch their attention and are helpful to them. This can also be found under the content tab in Klout.
Unique @ Senders: This is a better metric to track than just ‘followers’. This metric looks at those followers that find your tweets engaging enough that they will tweet to you directly or mention you in their tweets. This number shows you how many people truly find your Twitter presence useful, and with whom you can form valuable relationships. This is also found in Klout. Hopefully you get the thought – track metrics that reflect real human engagement, help you know how your community operates and what they find useful, and that help you tailor your tweets for your community.
Do your plot
In order to do your plot for using Twitter strategically, it’s the simple things that matter. Write down the answers to the questions above when you make your plot. Write down how much time per day you can use Twitter actively and stick to it. Track your metrics, and write down any changes you are making to your strategy according to the insights you get from the metrics. The main point – write down what you will do, how long you have to do it, what you change as you go, and what works and what doesn’t. Keep this document updated as you use Twitter, refer to it, and follow it. What are your thoughts on a successful Twitter action plot?

The best way to continue to communicate with your prospects is by setting up an autoresponder. Basically this will allow you to communicate with your prospects en masse, by sending pre-written, specifically timetabled email messages,
Do email marketing/ write autoresponders – this is such a critical piece of the selling process, that is super vital that you get really excellent at it. We would suggest taking some email marketing lessons to help build rapport by email, in order to ultimately make sales,
9) Det a free eBook to build list – source the gifts, free reports etc to deliver to your prospects when they choose to join your list, to give you their name and email,
10) Source bonuses for your offer – bonuses like discounts increase response that results in more sales.
For this reason, its vital to source bonuses to tempt your prospects with, in order to make more sales,
11) Get website live – until its live, nothing is going to happen. This means when people type your domain name into the address bar on their browser and hit enter, your website shows up,

If you’re a new coach or a seasoned coach new to promoting your coaching business online, here are seven simple strategies that are free and anyone can do them without any techno-difficulty. The key to the efficiency of these strategies is that the MUST be done regularly!
If you’re reading this and saying “do this already!” then skip the to bottom and ready why you’re not getting the response you reckon you could be.
1. Twitter Traffic – Tweet Blog posts & Articles
I have found that a wonderful source of traffic to my blog is from my Twitter followers. (I like you!) When ever I post to my blog (or if I publish and article) I send out a Tweet with the title and a shortened link. I can watch my traffic numbers & subscribers climb whenever I post and Tweet.
BONUS – Tweet your Facebook
This one is really simple. I use an application on Facebook that automatically imports my Tweets. Every time I Tweet about a blog post or an article it not only shows up on Twitter but it also shows up on my Facebook account.
2. Participate in forums & discussion groups
Just the reading and observing provides a wealth of market research. An added benefit is with regular participation and answering questions of your ideal prospect over time you establish yourself as an expert on the topics on which you share information. You will be pleasantly surprised at the members that will follow you because they like your communication within the group. That leads me to my next traffic building recommendation…
3. Email & forum signature
I would not recommend that you do any direct selling or promoting of your coaching business in your response to a question or comment by your ideal prospect within the discussion group or forum, but, you are usually given the opportunity to use a signature.
If you’re not already using a signature with every email that you send out you’re missing the opportunity to share with your connections not only who you are and what you do. Along with your name consider adding your business name with a link to your website. Adding a slogan or a quote that emphasizes your coaching message can be provocative and make curiosity for your reader to click thru to your website or blog.
4. Commenting on high profile blogs also read by your ideal prospect
In the beginning I underestimated the influence of commenting on other high profile blogs in your market. Everything about the comment is vital including the content of the comment. Most people will tell you that commenting on other peoples blogs is fantastic for making backlinks – yes that is a powerful aspect of commenting. But also consider what I call “face value”. Face Value is the value presented to all those other faces looking at your comment. Other visitors that are engaged in the conversation about a particular post will subscribe to the comment feed. Everything from your name, the link back to your blog and your comment that adds value to the overall conversation is seen and read by many eyes. If you’re commenting on a blog where your ideal client also reads and comments you have the opportunity to share value and attract prospects to your website.
5. Articles
Reckon of every article as a sample of your coaching message. Each article that you publish with words and phrases that your customers use to describe their need, or the solution they’re looking for will increase your potential of being found by your ideal client.
For example, let’s just say that you write one article and publish in a high traffic article directory and you get 50 views in a month with 5 people clicking through from the link in your resource box. You have increased your traffic by 5 people in one month with 1 article.
Now consider publishing an average of one article per day. In one month you would have 31 articles with the potential of 50 or more views and if the same average number of click thru would give you 155 new visitors. The best thing about publishing articles is that they continue to draw traffic as long as they remain in the article directory – every day – all year. The number of view and visits to your website continue to increase.
6. Autoresponders
Really vital to start building an email list, more vital is to stay in communication with the live hearts and minds on your list. Develop a relationship with the people that sign up to read more of your coaching message. Your email follow up, yes, even in an autoresponder is critical for the blossoming of your future business. Nurture your message in the hearts of your subscribers. Don’t miss an opportunity to touch their lives with the value of your message. Remember the three keys to grow your business – Connect, engage and make the offer. The emails sent to your subscribers need to do all three to bring your readers the most value and grow your business. The key to more traffic with your autoresponders is to use this tool to remind your prospects and customers to return to your website or blog to find value. Don’t just assume that your visitors will find there way back to your site – bring them back – invite them back.
7. Internet Radio
Start your own weekly Internet radio show. A weekly show will give you the ability to attract and engage an audience that are interested in your coaching message. Even better is to make it a live call in show where your guests can question questions and make comments.

I bring in guest experts that help me offer more in depth content on specific topics. Each weekly show is an education in some facet of growing your coaching business.
If you’re doing the above and not pleased with your traffic or conversion check the following:
1. Do you have a clear presentation of the solution you offer a specific market?
2. Is there a logical flow from each of the above tools that leads directly to the action you want the visitor to take?
3. Have you cultivated a following of IDEAL prospects, or are you just adding to your social media numbers?
4. Can you visitor easily find your email sign up?
5. Does your “information widget”, that is your information give-away something that your visitors recognize as valuable enough to exchange their private information for your gift?
There could be other reasons but these are just a few to get you started with distress shooting.

While the internet is a wonderful place to be, exposing you to inumerable leads worldwide, for many smaller businesses, hiring the services of a digital agency is just not feasible.
Digital agencies are a fantastic investment for businesses whose website is vital to them, businesses who don’t have the time to keep up with the ever-changing world of the internet, and businesses who like to outsource services to specialists for peace of mind.
But, for small businesses who aren’t yet at the stage where they can afford to hire a digital agency, this doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be doing any digital marketing at all. Purpose of your website
The first step for any digital marketing strategy – is to reckon about what your website means to your business. Is it there for selling? For supporting current customers? For branding? An online portfolio? All of these? You need a purpose for your website, so you know how much effort, and what kind of effort, you need to place into your campaign.
Once you know exactly what your website is for, this will help clarify the purpose for all your online strategies.
Where are Your Customers?
The next thing you need to do is reckon about how people ‘might’ find your website online. You don’t need to know every way right now, but this brainstorm is vital to get things going. Do you reckon you could get customers searching in Google? On topic blogs? on Facebook or Twitter? Is there a marketplace for your product on EBay or other online shopping stores?
By identifying these opportunities, you know where to initially target your marketing efforts. But, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep thinking about this over time and keep your eyes open constantly for new opportunities.
Keywords – How do you describe your product/service?
Finally, you need to choose what keyword themes describe your business. Here, you might like to look at my keyword research post. This will help you clarify what your customers are searching online for, and subsequently will help in the SEO, Adwords and social networking aspects of digital marketing.
Like all things online, your keyword list will need to evolve over time, so don’t reckon you can make this list then leave it, it will need to be reviewed every few months.
